Can you please explain the grammatical rules in using 이, 가, and 은, 는. I know that they are topic and subject makers, but my Korean language books do not explain when and how am I going to choose in using these particles. I know that 이 and 은 are for nouns ending with a consonant. 가 and 는 are for nouns ending with a vowel. But how will I know if I am to use either a subject or a topic maker?
Thanks.
It's occasionally unusual to use '은, 는' when a hearer doesn't know the very subject you're referring.
