Nevertheless, she does not reach Mariah Carey's performace of that song, because it's interpreted too softly and less expressive in the beginning (lyrics show another way), whereas Carey interprets masterly the pain and the brokenness by musical and vocal differentiation.
Leona's home isn't the alto pitch.

When Leona performed this song she was just a contestant on a talent show. She was given 2 1/2 minutes to sing, live.
Many contestants on X-Factor & Idol sing this song & are forgotten.
So why do the Mariah faithful come here to harass Leona?
Yes, contestant Leona's final note went higher than Mariah's,& she sang in the same key, but
Leona used her very slow vibrato in the lower register & her brilliant coloratura for the high register. Surely not something Mariah would do.
