Not really. However sometimes when mic'ing strummed chords on an acoustic you want the sound of the pick too - in that instance, you use a relatively thin pick and mic closer to the soundhole, rather than over the fretboard...

often people prefer using a pick like a thin to strum on acoustic since it flexes more, and using a stiffer one like a medium to play electric

Its just a personal choise for each player.... Lighter gauge picks are more useful in strumming chords as the sound of a lighter pick is thinner and less over powering, however, trying to use a flimsy pick will make lead playing less powerful in sound.... use what you are comfortable with and find your own perfect pick!

For some reason, and I don't know why, I sound best and "heaviest" (I'm a death metal/punk/thrash/metal guitarist) when using an orange .63 Dunlop pick, or the yellow .70 Dunlop pick. I just sound best with medium thickness picks.
I agree when I play ... ( 1 month ago by einsteinian)
I agree when I play extremely fast I need a flexible pick that will give slightly to extreme speed picking, but when I want to squeel or pinch harmonic or even manhandle the strings, I absolutely need a small very firm pick like a jazz III, and when I strum chords I again want a thin pick. So literally what I will be playing somewhat dictates what pick I pick.
