Man that was awesome.
In 760+ comments I'm sure someone's already mentioned this, but the game that about half way through - which you thought was Dwarf Fortress - was Nethack.
I would love to see you playing that for the first time, probably one of the best, most strangely detailed0 games I've ever played.

Ok i need help...when i try to play a romhack... now nothing happens,goes black and nothing...i saw and my zsnesw is the highest updated, i extracted the folder rom and patched it with the highest Lunar IPS update...i even tried other roms, same thing, help!!!
